Picture Framer (Volunteer position)
Position Overview: The Picture Framer is responsible for assembling, matting, mounting, and framing artworks, photographs, and other visual materials according to customer specifications and industry standards. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a keen eye for design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Frame Assembly: Accurately measure, cut, and join frame components using appropriate tools and techniques, ensuring the structural integrity of the frame.
- Matting and Mounting: Cut mats to fit artwork dimensions, mount artwork securely within frames, and apply appropriate backing materials to protect artwork.
- Frame Finishing: Sand, stain, paint, or otherwise finish frames to achieve desired appearance, ensuring quality and consistency in the finished product.
- Customer Interaction: Consult with customers to understand their framing needs, provide recommendations on frame styles, mat colors, and other design elements, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain inventory levels of framing materials, including frames, mats, glass, backing materials, and hardware, and order supplies as needed.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished frames for quality and accuracy, ensuring that frames meet established standards and customer expectations.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot framing equipment, such as saws, mat cutters, and joiners, to ensure proper functioning and safety.
- Workspace Organization: Keep framing area clean, organized, and safe, including proper disposal of waste materials and adherence to safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience in picture framing or related fields, such as carpentry, woodworking, or custom framing, is preferred.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in using framing tools and equipment, such as saws, mat cutters, and joiners.
- Strong mathematical skills for accurate measurements and calculations.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain high-quality standards.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Customer service skills, including effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge: Understanding of framing materials, techniques, and design principles.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry heavy framing materials, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
Education: Additional training in framing techniques or design principles may be beneficial.
